Miller Electric 212 MIG Welder Review

The Millermatic 212 MIG Welder is an Auto-Set wheeled Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding device that can handle material from 22 gauge steel to ⅜-inch thick metal in a single pass.

What’s more, the Millermatic has a breakthrough control feature called auto-set, which automatically sets your welder to the proper settings or parameters without you having to adjust it manually. Auto-Set allows you to do all-in-one MIG work without second-guessing every last factor or adjustment.

All the welding worker needs to do is set the material thickness and wire diameter in order to start welding in a dependable and accurate fashion.

Solid-State Contactor Circuit and EZ-Change Rack

Thanks to its contactor circuit, the Miller 212 MIG Welder can make the wire electrically cold right until you pull the trigger and start welding or soldering. This makes the unit safer to touch than a hot iron. It also torches more effectively and easier to position before you start your welding process.

The Miller 212 MIG Welder also has an EZ-Change Low Cylinder Rack that enables users to easily roll cylinders on and off the rack as required. You don’t need to lift any cylinders at all. It’s also compatible with the Spoolmate 200 Series Spool Gun so that you can save time from changing the wire feed speed.

The spool gun itself will assist the operator in letting a continuous flow of wire to come out of the welder, allowing for uninterrupted welding.

Line Voltage Compensation and Amazing Durability

The Miller 212 MIG Welder is quite dependable when it comes to Line Voltage Compensation, wherein it keeps a constant welding output even if your power output variation is at +/- 10%. Furthermore, this is the welder of choice for those who wish to reduce maintenance and operating costs because it features a fan-on-demand cooling system that turns on when needed only, which reduces contaminants drawn to the machine and power consumption in general.

There have been users who’ve reported using the welder continuously for six years and the device hasn’t failed once in making metalwork and handrail apps. It typically uses 0.03-millimeter wire and 75 CO2 and 25 AR mixed gas. It also helps that it has wheels that make it quite mobile as well.

Things to Improve

If there are cons to from the Miller Millermatic 212 MIG Welder, then it’s the fact that it’s a MIG welder rather than a multipurpose device that can do TIG and MIG welding. It also lacks a spool gun (you have to buy it separately) although it’s supposedly spool-gun-ready for aluminum applications.

Furthermore, although it has wheels, the wheels themselves can serve as yet another moving part you have to maintain compared to portable welders that don’t have wheels included.

Aside from that, there’s not much else bad that one can talk about the highly rated welder except maybe the fact that it should get more reviews so that it’d have a fairer shake in terms of ratings.

The Miller 212 MIG Welder can weld ½-inch metal in one pass all day long. You can also easily set the thickness and gauge of the material you’re working with, and then the wheeled welder will figure out the right amount of welding power needed to get the job done automatically.

It’s also durable and long-lasting if you know how to take care of it. It even has a heat light that activates if it gets too hot or if you exceed the duty cycle (the very limits) of the welder in question. It also warns you if you have a trigger switch short that deactivates the weld output.

It also has a manual mode to give you flexibility when welding materials like stainless steel or aluminum on mild steel.
